About
Kala has been practicing bodywork since 2006, initially as a massage therapist, and then as a physical therapist after finishing a Master’s program in 2012.
After working 5+ years in the world of outpatient, orthopedic therapy in Asheville, North Carolina, she began working independently in order to offer both physical therapy AND massage sessions to more thoroughly address pain and movement dysfunction. Her background includes 25+ years of modern dance experience, which continues to inform her interest in restoring patients to non-painful movement patterns.
Her continued training includes courses with Gait Happens, the Institute of Physical Art, training in the Selective Functional Movement Assessment, and from multiple dance medicine workshops (Westside Dance PT and Harkness Center for Dance Injuries in NYC and currently finishing an 8-wk online program with Pivot Dancer based in Canada). She also has over 180 hours of Thai massage training after multiple trips to Chiang Mai, Thailand.
NC Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist (# 6400) since 2006.
North Carolina Licensed Physical Therapist (# 13882) since 2012.
Kala began taking online classes with Gait Happens in 2020 and discovered an even deeper level of interest in learning about strength, motion, and mechanics of the foot and lower limb, and the effects further up the kinetic chain. She now also works doing virtual consultations as part of the Gait Happens team.
